unFed unDead! Month 3 Status
We are still not turning profit– however we have done a lot this month. Our new version, awaiting approval finally adds full iPad support without the need for a separate iPad version. The game looks great on the iPad. The other big thing that we did this month is to put together a pretty nice and thorough in game tutorial. This was in response to our analytics showing that roughly 40% of players that opened the game never finished playing their first level. This tutorial recently has gone live. In the last week, I have seen many more downloads of our free version. Within the last few days, I’ve seen our free download average go from about 30-50 a day to more in the range of 150 per day. I’ve also seen some occasional downloads of the paid version– maybe more like 2 a day or so, which is still very poor– however hopefully another sign that the game may start to gain some traction. We recently restricted the free version down to 3 levels and the when the newest version is approved, this will be cut even further down to only the first two level.
Also, Hasbro this month released a free Hungry Hungry Hippos app for iPhone and iPad. This game has gone into the top 25 free apps on the app store this week. This gives me mixed feelings, it proves to me that there is a demand for this type of game and makes me continue to wonder what we could have done better. Playing the game though, it is not very good. Our game has much more depth to it. I am very hopeful that the masses that download the Hippos game will have an itch for a little bit more and that they will find our game, which appears on the search results a few spots below it.
I did a little bit of marketing last month, but not at the scope that I wanted to mainly because I am waiting for this iPad version. Specifically, I got up on 2 different review sites. These provided a small bump in downloads, but nothing significant. I was overly not impressed with the review sites themselves. Once this iPad version is approved, I will begin much more aggressively marketing and purchasing reviews on a wide range of review sites. I am very hopeful that by the end of this month, we will start to see some revenue.
